Guimarães is located approximately 350 km from Lisbon (the Portuguese Capital) and about 50 km from the second largest city, Porto.

From Lisbon or Porto, all the participants of the IPIN conference can reach Guimarães by train or by car.

Getting to Guimarães through the Oporto International Airport (OPO)

The Porto International Airport (Francisco Sá Carneiro International Airport) has regular flights to/from the main European Cities. You can find the flight schedule with scheduled departures and arrivals at the Airport Web site.

From the Oporto Airport to Guimarães

The city centre of Guimarães is about 50 km from the Oporto Airport. There are several options to travel from the Airport to Guimarães. The cheapest way is by public transportation. For that:

     1. Take the Metro from the Airport to Porto Campanhã (Porto main station)

             a. Line E (dark blue)

             b. Travel time: around 30 min

             c. Cost: 1,50€ for a one way Z4 ticket. The ticket name is "Andante" and can be
                 recharged latter (you can buy the ticket at the Metro station)

             d. Schedule: trains every 20 minutes (more information here)

     2. Take a train from Porto Campanhã to Guimarães

             a. Trains: U (urban) or IC (intercity, only one a day)

             b. Travel time: around 1h13

             c. Cost: 2,20€ (for Urban train) or 10,50€ (for IC train)

             d. Schedule: trains every hour (more information here)


There are also many car rental companies at the airport.

From the Guimarães train station to the city centre

The Guimarães train station is at walking distance from the city centre and most of the hotels, except the Pousada de Santa Marinha (for this hotel, take a taxi).
The train station is also at walking distance from the conference venue (CCVF).
